John Royce Lightfoot, 79, of Fitzgerald died July 4, 2013 at his re residence. Born September 23, 1933 in Chula to the late John B. and Elby Henry Lightfoot, h he was a 1952 graduate of Tift County High School, he served his country h honorably as an aviator in the United States Army, retiring from a 22 year m meritorious career. Following his service, he earned both Bachelors and Masters D Degrees in education from Valdosta State College and an Education Specialist d degree from Georgia Southern University. He was a math educator in Liberty C County over 20 years. He also served as an ordained minister in the Church of t the Nazarene in Augusta, Nashville, and Hinesville. He enjoyed reading, w woodworking, and quilting. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Harriette Thompson Lightfoot of Fitzgerald; his children, Dr. Peggy and David Carpenter of Nashville, TN and Pamela and Hubert Gills of Fitzgerald; his grandchildren, Matthew Carpenter, Will and Michelle Nash, Bailey Childs, John Nash, Cameron Nash, Danchelle Nash, and Paige Sherman; his great-grandchildren, Grace Clements, Jayden Nash, Gre Greyson Childs and Brilee Childs; a sister, Virginia Van Gorder of Englewood, FL. FL. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Phillip Ant Anthony Lightfoot; three brothers, Billy W. Lightfoot, Raleigh C. Lightfoot, his his twin, and Ronald Lightfoot; sister, Edith Earlene Miller. Funeral services were held July 8 at 11 a.m. at the Church of the Nazarene wi with the Revs. Dan Hayes and Raymond Dean and the Rev. Dr. Roy Rogers of officiating. Interment followed at Evergreen Cemetery with full military honors.
