G. Alvin Benford

Mr. G. Alvin Benford  of Fitzgerald, died Friday, April 3, 1998 at Osceola 
Nursing Home in 0cilla.  He was 85.	
Mr. Benford was born  September 11, 1912 in Franklin ,_j county, AL, the son of 
AA and Essie Ilgoar Benford. A farmer,he had lived in Fitzgerald since January 
1946. He was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Ben Hill county and served 
in the U.S. Navy in WW II.
Survivors include his wife,  Mozelle Arnold Benford of I Fitzgerald; one son 
and daughter-in-Iaw, Gleason and Janet Benford of Lilburn; five brothers, Loyd 
Benford of Fitzgerald; Bobby R. Benford, Auburn Benford, J.L. Benford and Jerry 
Benford, all of Haleyville, AL; two sisters, Pauline B. Hester of Fitzgerald 
and Geraldine B. Arthur of Waycross; and two grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 5, 1998 at 2 p.m. at Paulk Funeral 
Home Chapel in Fitzgerald with Rev. Sonny  Pate, Rev. Danny Lovett and Rev. 
John Frank Wilson (in Alabama) officiating.
Janie Grubbs served as the pianist and the song leader and soloist was Donald 
Anderson.
Pallbearers were Glenn Stokes, Phil Stokes, Kevin Phillips, Kent Phillips, 
Varney Cauley and Herman Foster.
Honorary pallbearers were Walt Tucker, Horace Howell, Stanley Biggers, Haynes 
Moorhead, Kyle Phillips, Dwight Huggins, Gerald Parker, Don ,Anderson, Joe 
Phillips, Fred Cunningham, Clyde Harris, Milton Huggins,Dean Troup and Kenneth 
McCook.
Interment was in Littleville Cemetery in Haleyville, AL on Tuesday, April 7 at 
11 a.m.
Paulk Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
