He was 78. Rev. Dewain Joiner officiated at the 4:00 p.m. service with interment in Evergreen Cemetery. Pallbearers were Joe Rogers, Leonard Smith, R. G. Walls, Rob Cox, Michael Padgett, W. T. Matthews, and Elisha Dickens. Organist was Marty Smith and soloist, Rufus Matthews. The deceased was born October 23, 1919 in Ben Hill County to Offie and Nettie Pitts Rogers. A retired Power Plant Engineer, U. S. Navy, Marine Corps Logistics Base in Albany, a WWII, U. S. Army veteran and member of Ocilla Church of God, Mr. Rogers had lived in the community most of his life. He is survived by wife, Doris Melton Rogers of Fitzgerald; two sons: Alton Rogers, Jr. of Panama . City, FL and Glenn Rogers of Conyers; two daughters: Dorothy Swanson of Fitzgerald and Sue Mitchell of Senoia, GA; one brother: Verlon Rogers of Fitzgerald; 8 grandchildren.
