Paulk Funeral Home
Bennie Jackson "J.B." Smith, 89, of Fitzgerald, died Wednesday, September 16,
2009, at the Fitzgerald Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held 2:00pm, Friday, September 18 at the Paulk Funeral
Home Chapel with Rev. Dewain Joiner and Elder Jamey Tucker officiating. Eulogy
will be given by George Johnson. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery.
Visitation will be held 7-9 Thursday evening at the funeral home.

Mr. Smith was born June 11, 1920 in Oglethorpe County to the late John S. and
Louise "Lula" Gunter Smith. He lived in Fitzgerald most of his life. Mr. Smith
retired in 1981 as the Superintendent of shipping at Modern Fibers and was a
former employee of Fitzgerald Mills. He assisted his wife with cake baking and
was and avid gardener. Mr. Smith was a member of the Fitzgerald Church of God.

Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 61 years: Mary Long Smith of Fitzgerald;
sisters, Lou Robinson of Jacksonville, FL. and Lois Parsons of Fitzgerald as
well as numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded
in death by 6 sisters and 6 brothers.
