DEATHS Mrs. Stephens Funeral services for Mrs. M. M. Stephens, 225 S. Lee street who died at 9 a.m. Thursday (Sept 25, 1975) at Dorminy Memorial Hospital following a long illness were held at the chapel of Paulk Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday. Dr, Jeffrey Jones and Dr. John Burch officiated. Marlin Jones provided organ music and sang. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers were Ed Castleberry, Paul Stone, David Jay, Ethridge Paulk, Baney Adams, Lawton Brightwell, Owen Seagraves and Manning McCranie. Born Dec. 15, 1883 in Irwinton, she was the former Leila Pace, daughter of the late Nathaniel and Sedessa Pace. She was the widow of Marlin Monroe Stephens. Mrs. Stephens was a member of the First Baptist Church. She had lived in Fitzgerald since 1901. She was a former Sunday School Teacher and former and former superintendent of the Junior Department Sunday School at First Baptist Church. She was a member of Fitzgerald Woman's Club, Fitzgerald Garden Club, Georgia Writers Club of Atlanta and author of the novel Rhomelie published in 1971. She was also the author of a book of poems, Enthrolled published about 1950 and the author of a number of songs, many of them set to music. Survivors include: A son Eugene Stephens, Fitzgerald. Two daughters, Mrs. Gladys S. Jones, Augusta and Mrs. Anne Jenks, Richmond, Va. Nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren also survive.
