The report which reached The Times in a brief note is that John Sweat, a well-known character in the county, went to the home of Luke Faulkner on Saturday morning and, calling him out of his house, blew his brains out with a shot gun. Faulkner is a well-known farmer about sixty years of age and has several children. Sweat is a cripple and moves about from place to place in a little ox cart. After the killing, it is said that he gave himself up to the sheriff and is now in jail at Nashville.
