Details of the affair are yet meagre, but it has been learned that Mr. Mack Dees a deputy or marshal at Lenox, was shot and killed by a negro whom he was trying to arrest, and that the negro was later killed by a posse of citizens. The following telegram from our correspondent at Adel, tells of the affair: Adel, Ga., May 19 – Mack Dees, an officer at Lenox, was shot and killed today about twelve o’clock by a negro man, whose name has not been learned here. The negro was said to have killed a negro woman and man at Tifton a few weeks ago, and to have gone from there to Lenox. Officer Dees was attempting to arrest the man for this crime, when he was shot to death. The negro made his escape after shooting the officer, but was speedily followed by a large possee of citizens, who surrounded him in a swamp a short distance and killed him. The possee came up with the negro and shot him to death about 3:30 this afternoon, three hours after the death of Dees.
