Mr. Akins was born July 19, 1927, in Trenton, Fla., to the late Mitchell and Ollie Hilliard Akins. He obtained a law degree and was a member of the Florida Bar Association for over 50 years and was a member of the William T. Carlton Masonic Lodge No. 46 in Trenton, Fla. Judge Akins was a member of Camp Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Clinch County. Along with his parents, Mr. Akins was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Price. Survivors include his wife, Ruth Akins of Nashville, Ga.; daughters and son-in-law, Johanna Akins, Gainesville, Fla., Peggy Ruth and Dr. Raymond Cullpepper, Birmingham, Ala.; sons and daughters-in- law, Mitchell Akins, Middleburg, Fla., the Rev. David and Debbie Price, Jesup, Ga., Charles and Donna Price, Atlanta, Jody and Patty Price, Nashville; special nephew, Francis Akins; 12 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held today, April 8, 2009, at 2 p.m. in the Camp Creek Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Statenville Cemetery in Statenville with full Masonic Rites.
