Touchton Die Almost Simultaneously FUNERAL HELD YESTERDAY Collapsing at the services at Long Bridge Primitive Baptist church, two persons died Saturday afternoon on or near the church ground. One of them was an aged man, the other a young married woman. The deaths occurred about an hour apart. Mr. Jack Akridge, aged resident of the Nashville section, collapsed shortly after noon, and died almost instantly on the church grounds. An hour later, Mrs. G.J. Touchton, 36, of Bemis, was stricken with apoplexy and was removed from the church to a neighboring house, where she died within a few minutes. Funeral services for Mr. Akridge were held yesterday morning, and those for Mrs. Touchton, yesterday afternoon. Mr. Akridge, a very aged man who made his home with relatives was in exceptionally poor health, and his death was sudden but not unexpected. He gave no warning symptoms, however, but merely fell to the ground before medical aid could be summoned. Mrs. Touchton was seated at the services when she turned to her husband and complained of severe pains in her head. A doctor was summoned and she was placed in an auto on the church grounds. She lapsed into a coma before his arrival, and died at a neighboring house. Mrs. Touchton suffered a light stroke of this nature about three years ago, but had been in excellent health for some time. She recently became a member of the Primitive Baptist church, being baptized on Sunday, October 14. The funeral services were held at Cat Creek church on Sunday afternoon. The services were conducted by Elder Charles Vickers of Ray City, who spoke in a touching manner of the estimable character of the deceased, and her services to her friends. He touched effectively upon the inscrutable will of Providence, which removed her so unexpectedly. Interment was in the church yard there, John Sineath having charge of funeral arrangements.
