Judge Alexander Dies on Sunday
Well Known and Prominent Nashville Lawyer Passes After a Brief Illness
A RECORD FOR SERVICE
	There was genuine sorrow in this city this morning over the death of 
Judge Joseph A. Alexander, which occurred at his home in Nashville on Sunday 
afternoon.  His death followed an indisposition of several months, but he had 
been up and able to attend to his duties until a short time before his death.  
It was known to his friends here that he was not in the best of condition.
	Judge Alexander was about 65 years of age and had lived at Nashville for 
the past 35 years.  He was reared in Tattnall County near Reidsville and moved 
to Nashville to practice law.  He was associated with the late Mr. Henry B. 
Peeples under the firm name of Peeples and Alexander.
	He married a daughter of the late Mrs. Henrietta Lamb and after her 
death he was married to a younger daughter.  He is survived by his second wife 
and several children, two of his daughters being members of the student body of 
the woman’s college in this city.
	Judge Alexander had held a number of offices of honor and trust and was 
always faithful to the trust reposed in him.  He had served his country in the 
legislature and his district in the senate.  He had the confidence and the good 
will of all who knew him.
	His funeral will occur this afternoon at 4 o’clock in Nashville.  His 
wife is a sister of Mrs. Frank R. Parramore of this city.
	The funeral services will be conducted by Rev. H.E. Styppe, pastor of 
the Methodist church, of which he was a member, and the members of the Nashville 
bar will act as pallbearers.  It is understood that the Masonic ritual will be 
used at the interment.  He was grand master of the lodge of that city.
	Judge Alexander was appointed to that position to succeed Judge Smith to 
take the superior court judgeship.  Judge Alexander was county attorney for 
several years and was very active in public service.
	He was stricken on last Tuesday and suffered from a complication of 
troubles.
