Born Aug. 10, 1912 in Berrien County, she was the daughter of the late John R. and Laura Mathis Tyson. She was a member of Nashville United Methodist Church and was very active, having served in various work areas of the Administrative Board. She was a long time member of the Nashville Woman’s Club. She was preceded in death by her husband, Phin Avera, Sept. 9, 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Ann Garrett of Tifton; three sisters, Evie Connell, Hazel Shaw, both of Nashville, and Sara Giddens of Fitzgerald; two brothers, Raymond Tyson and Fred Tyson, both of Nashville; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held Wednesday, Dec. 13 at 2 p.m. in Nashville United Methodist Church. The Rev. Stephen Webb officiated. Michael Purvis, organist, accompanied the Rev. Webb, who sang, “How Great Thou Art.” Active pallbearers were Butch Brown, Freddy Moore, Randy Hancock, Allen Anderson, Lamar Roberts and Allan Roberts. Interment was in City Cemetery.
