Born Jan. 20, 1926, in Marion County, FL, he was the son of the late B. B. and Pearl Horton Bailey. He was a retired farmer and a retired carpenter with the maintenance department at Valdosta State University. He was a WWII veteran of the United States Army, a member of Nashville Post VFW, and a member of Ray City United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Roberts Bailey of Ray City; two daughters, Linda Gail Johnson of Atlanta and Freddie Carol Cooley of Ray City; one brother, Alton Bailey of Lake Park; four grandchildren, Dan Cooley of Ray City, Keith Johnson of Newnan, Chad Cooley of Eastman and James Emory Johnson of McDonough. Funeral services were held on Feb. 28 at 4 p.m. at Ray City United Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Mitchell officiating. Della Purvis sang "It is Well With My Soul" and "Evening Prayer." Brent Exum sang "Go Rest High on That Mountain," and the congregation sang "Amazing Grace." Interment was in New Ramah Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Dwight Bailey, Greg Harrell, Ran Bailey, David Roberts, Wayne Olive and Wayne Hand. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Creech, Junior Cornelius, Ferrell Herring, Buddy Purvis, Gene Molisee, Don Carnine, and Carol Exum. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
