The daughter of the late Lewis and Georgiann Keefe, she was a member of Springhill Baptist Church and was founder of "Bateman Poet Society." Survivors include her husband, Doyle W. Bateman of Franklinton; two daughters, Louell Phenald of Pride, LA and Deana Chidester of Prairieville, LA; one son, Butch Bateman of Baton Rouge. LA; one brother, Elmer Clyde Keefe of Nashville; two sisters, Lottie Grey Gaskins and Elnita Lynn both of Nashville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. Funeral services were held on July 29 at 10 a.m. at Springhill Baptist Church with Dr. Tommy Morgan officiating. Interment was in Springhill Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Hookum and Holly. Crain Funeral Home of Franklinton was in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: Gene was the great granddaughter of Julia Ann Luke and John Daniel Boykin for any Luke researcher.
