Brooks Rites Held at St. Luke Church Funeral services for Laney H. Brooks, 76, Rte. 2, Alapaha, who died at the residence at noon, October 6, following a lengthy illness, were held from St. Luke Church Saturday afternoon at 3 o’clock, under direction of Rev. Julian Tucker and Rev. Julian Rowan. Burial was in the church cemetery. Mr. Brooks was born in South Carolina, April 19, 1879, the son of James Riley and Lydia Stone Brooks, deceased, but had lived in Berrien County most of his life. He was a member of Glory Methodist Church. Survivors include four sons, Floyd and Herman of Alapaha, Hinton of Orlando, Fla., and Clary of Kissimmee, Fla.; three daughters, Mrs. Annie Mae Harward, Bowling Green, Fla., Mrs. Lydia Bieira, Modesto, Calif, and Mrs. Stella Perkins, Alapaha; one sister, Mrs. Commie Cooper, Bowling Green, Fla. Several grandchildren and one great grandchild also survive. A group of singers including Edgar and Herbert Griffin, Roy F. Davis, and Mrs. Rachel Cox, sang “Rock of Ages” and “What A Friend We Have in Jesus.” Active Pallbearers were Mark Lewis, Ira Lewis, Roy Henderson, Cleon Henderson, Barney Lewis, and T.K. Mobley.
