Born September 5, 1917 to the late Judge William R. and Sancil Connell Smith, she attended Andrew College in Cuthbert for two years and Agnes Scott college one year. She graduated from Perry Business School and worked with Civil Service. She was a member of Nashville Woman's Club for over 50 years and Nashville First Baptist Church where she served as pianist and youth music director. She was married to the late Dr. Edwin Harold "Doc" Brown. Survivors include two daughters, Kitty Knight of Virginia Beach, VA and Marla Hancock of Nashville; seven grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, William Harrison "Butch" Brown. Funeral services were held June 29 at 11 a.m. at Nashville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Billy Southerland and Rick Williams officiating. Thomas Clayton sang "What A Wonderful World," Kathryn Bumgardner sang "How Great Thou Art," and the congregation sang "Because He Lives." Renee Gaskins served as organist. Interment was in Westview Cemetery. Bob Lovein, Bo Lovein, Dan Taylor and Dr. Hank Decker sang "I'll Fly Away" at the cemetery. Active pallbearers were Hayden Hancock, Will Brown, Alex Brown, Blake Brown, Rudy Hancock, Rodney Hancock. Honorary pallbearers were Bo Lovein, Dr. Hank Decker, Butch Houston, Jerry Griffin, Dane Perkins, Jimmy Fulp, Raymond Tucker, Robert Connell, Johnny Lovein, L.E. Watson, III, Dr. Henry Richbourg, Doug Gaskins, Walt Dickson, Greg Ray, Bob Clyatt. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
