He was born September 4, 1935, in Alapaha to Grover and Nancy LouJane Exum Browning. He was a firefighter and a mechanic and was of the Baptist faith. Survivors include his best friend, Margie Roberson; four daughters, Jane Browning, Jewell Browning, and Jean Burns, all of Cross, and Judy Purvis of Brandon, MS; two sisters, Effie Lee Vickers and Doug Hall of Alapaha, Loudell and Donnis Williams of Omega; one sister-in-law, Margie Browning of Nashville; five brothers, Jesse and Ernestine Browning of Reidsville, J.B. and Lorean Browning and Vinson and Alion Browning, all of Nashville, Russell and Terri Browning of Hazlehurst, and Jesse Robert Browning of Alapaha; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many friends and family who loved him. He was preceded in death by a son, Johnathan Browning; grandchildren, Joshua Gossett and Geoffrie Jacobs; his parents, Grover and Nancy Browning; and brothers, Grover “Buck” Browning and Nelson Browning. Funeral services will be held February 13 at 2 p.m. at Rowetown Church in Alapaha. Interment will be in Riverside Church Cemetery.
