He was a native of Nashville and was a son of the late William D. and Anna Matthews Buie. He attended the University of Georgia in Athens and entered the Naval Academy in 1933, where he graduated. In 1968 he retired as commissioned officer of Naval Air Station in Norfolk, Va. He was a veteran of World War II, Korean Conflict, and Vietnam Conflict. He and his family had lived at Tide Water Area, 4313 Thorough Good, Virginia Beach, Va. for the past seven years. Survivors include his widow, the former Margaret Bullock of Nashville; two sons, Robert Buie of San Diego, Calif., Douglas Buie of New York City; one daughter, Mrs. R.P. Dillard of Pensacola, Fla.; two brothers, Walter Dan Buie of Thomasville, and William Buie of Maywood, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Grace Yancey of Atlanta, Mrs. Robert E. Foxworthy of Reddick, Fla., also two grandchildren. Graveside services were held Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery with interment there.
