Born March 20, 1912 in Ware County to the late Manning and Lula Goodin Cersey, he was retired from Larson Boats, Berrien County Board of Education, Nashville Textile, Coral Corporation and Anderson Shell Station. He was a member and deacon emeritus of Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunie Griffin Cersey, who died in 1993. Survivors include daughter and son in law, Shirley and Thomas Nelms, Jr. of Nashville; two sons and daughters in law, Albert and Loretha Cersey of Nashville and Homer and Ethel Cersey of Lakeland; two half sisters, Dottie Brown of Valdosta and Latrelle Baggett of Moultrie; brother, Clifford Cersey of Jacksonville, FL; half-brother, Thomas Cersey of Nashville; five grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Pauline Sirmans and Vera Burkhalter and a brother, Fred Cersey. A funeral service was held January 5 at 11 a.m. at Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs Stan Stalvey and Franklin Vinson officiating. Brandon Bush sang "Ready to Fly" and Scotty Mathis sang "Holy Spirit." "Go Rest High on that Mountain" was played on CD. Interment was in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Rodney Sirmans, Chris Cersey, Jeremy Cersey, Chad Nelms, Eric Swain, Andy Hayes. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Mt. Pleasant Church, Wayne Cook, Buddy Cook, Henry Ford, Wendell Ford, David Lanier. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
