"Ray" Chambers Jr., 68, died March 21, 2009, at his home in Nashville. He was born in Savannah on Aug. 29, 1940, to the late Kathleen K. and Raymond A. Chambers Sr. He moved to Nashville from Titusville, FL in 2002 following retirement as a civil engineer from DOD, Cape Canaveral Air Force Station at Kennedy Space Center. A member of the Nashville United Methodist Church, he enjoyed singing in the choir prior to his illness. He can be remembered as a very competitive person who expected perfection in his work and play. He was an avid lover of all sports and enjoyed playing baseball (catcher) and football but his main love was auto racing. He was a member of the Sports Car Club of America, racing for many years along with serving as a senior driver instructor. He was also a member of the Nashville Better hometown and was a past president of the Nashville-Berrien Rotary Club. He was a recipient of a kidney transplant in 2004 and encouraged everyone to be a donor if possible to help save another life Survivors include his wife. Carolyn Harnage Chambers of Nashville; son, Raymond A. "Al" Chambers, III of Orlando, FL; daughter, Vicki Stevens and Husband, David, Titusville, FL, two grandsons, Corey Richardson and Cody Richardson; two step-grandchildren, Daniel Stevens and Jeffrey Stevens; his mother-in-law, Claudia Harnage; two sisters-in-law, Jackie Cox and Marilynn Lowery; their families and an aunt, Helen Browning and family. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on March 23 in the chapel of Loven Funeral Home with Revs. Dwight Bishop and Danny Ray officiating. Eulogies were given by Johnny Tucker and Dawson Mathis. Prelude pianist was Bobette Lamb. Songs on CD included "On Eagles' Wings" and "Take it To The Limit" The Rainbow Boys sang "I'll FLy Away," accompanied by Renee Gaskins.
