He was born March 27, 1929 in Berrien County to the late George Washington and Mary Clyde Parker Clanton. For many years he was employed with Isbon Walker at Trippe Oil Company and retired with the Berrien County Board of Education in the maintenance department at Berrien High School. He attended Nashville First Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include his wife, Abbie Stone Clanton of Nashville; brother and sister in law, Buford and Katie Louise Clanton of Macon; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister, Alonzo Clanton, James Edwin Clanton and Georgia Vernell Cornelius. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. February 14 in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Dennis Clanton and Gary Wiggins officiating. Dan Taylor sang "Because He Lives," and Deborah Boyd sang "Beulah Land." Renee Gaskins served as pianist. Interment was in Long Bridge Cemetery. Pallbearers were Russell Clanton, Justin Clanton, Joey McClendon, Wade Cornelius, Joey Clanton, Dan Knight. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
