Born August 14, 1921, in Franklin County, Vermont to the late Earle F. and Alice Ingalls Close, he was a retired M/Sgt. in the U.S. Air Force with 20 years service including service in the Korean War. He also served in the U.S. Army during WWII. After his military retirement at Moody AFB, he worked with Civil Service in vehicle maintenance in the motor pool. He was a member of Nashville Post VFW and Nashville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Edith Avis Field Close of Nashville; three daughters, Donna Close of Lexington, KY, Polly Whittle of Cordele, Carol Hendley of Nashville; son, Freddy Close of Macon; two grandchildren, Leslie Montgomery and Lance Hendley. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Katie Hendley, who died at 2000. Funeral services were held April 4 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Dwight Bishop officiating. Interment with full military honors was held in Nashville Memorial Gardens. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
