He was born January 6, 1944, in Baxley to the late Henry C. and Peggy Simpson Craven. He was a retired lineman with Georgia Power Company and a cattleman. He was a member of Cross Creek Baptist Church. He was an Army Veteran and served in Vietnam. He was a true “simple man” who dearly loved his family and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ronnie Craven and Larry Craven. He is survived by his wife, Judy Stalvey Craven of Nashville; two daughters, Shannon (Rob) Hawkins of Ray City, Shawna (Greg) Hughes of Nashville; son, Trae (Terri) Craven of Nashville; brother, Seabron (Ruth) Craven of Valdosta; two sisters-in-law, Ann Courson of Baxley and Susan Zipperer of Valdosta; eight grandchildren, Quade and Ethan Hawkins, Maredith and Mallary Hughes, Cullen, Brooke, Halle and Henry Craven. Funeral services were held November 18 at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Mark Swain and Vernon Hughes officiating. Buck Warren and Teresa Quillen sang “Let’s Meeting by the River”and Deborah Boyd sang “How Great Thou Art.” “I’ll Meet You by the River” and “The Cowboy Rides Away” were played on CD. Interment followed at Nashville Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were Tommy Massingill, Brion Akins, Philip Akins, Van Tucker, Kylon Fort, Trae Craven, Steve Craven, Michael Luke. Honorary pallbearers were Bruce Mathis, Ben Warren, Carroll Durrance, Brian Lanier, Brad Warren, Carlton Boyette, Earl Browning, J.D. Mathis. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
