The Rev. John Wilson of Tifton, conducted the last sad rites in the presence of the family and a few close friends. Interment followed in the city cemetery in the family plot. Mrs. E.H. Brown and Mrs. Jim Perry sang “In The Sweet Bye and Bye.” Six members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars served as pall bearers and the firing squad was composed of American Legionnaires. Jackson Moore blew taps. The deceased was born in Douglas on November 20, 1920. He was the grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. S.J. McLendon of Nashville. He was the son of Mrs. Rose McLendon Delaney of West Palm Beach, Fla. his father was the late Henry Elmo Delaney, who served in World War I and was a survivor of the famed Otranto ship along with E.S. Steward of Nashville and lived until about twelve years ago. Elmo Jr. was killed in action with the U.S. Marines on Siapan July 26, 1944. He was a young man of high Christian character and was well and favorably known in Nashville. Besides his mother he is survived by one brother, Jack Delaney of West Palm Beach, Fla. Among those from out of town attending the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Fred Tittle and Miss Oreitta Hughes of Miami, Fla., Walter D. McLendon of Pensacola, Fla., Mr. and Mrs. Alex McLendon of Swainsboro, Mrs. M.L. Strong, Guy Clyatt and Mrs. Eugene Alderman of Valdosta.
