The Berrien Press -- Jack Norbert Dempsey, 87, of Alapaha died March 12, 2007 
at Tift Health Care.
 Born June 23, 1919 in Powderly, TX to the late Joe Thomas and Gertrude 
Anderson Dempsey, he had lived in Berrien County most of his life and attended 
Alapaha First United Methodist Church. He served in the United States Army Air 
Corps in WWII and was very active in the Disabled American Veterans 
Association. He was a truck driver in his early life and later owned Dempsey 
Bar-B-Que locations, becoming known as the "Bar-B-Q Man."
 Survivors include his wife, Annie M. Tyler Dempsey of Alapaha; one son, David 
Earl Weeks of Athens, OH; five daughters, Joann McElroy of Atlanta, Debra 
Gillespie of Ennis, TX, Barbara Rich of Brookfield, Jean Bailey of Valdosta, 
Rose Sharon Heath of Tifton; three sisters, Mary Dempsey and Frances Barber, 
both of Fallon, NV, and Sarah Puckett of Hawthorne, NV; 15 grandchildren; 25 
great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death 
by one daughter, Jackie Abney; two grandchildren, Denise Goodman and Desmond 
Heath; and three brothers.
 Funeral services were held Mar. 14 at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Albritton-
Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Willie Heath officiating.
 Interment was in Tift Memorial Gardens.
 Active pallbearers were Barry Rich, Rodney Rich, Ronnie Rich, James Sizemore, 
Blake Rich, Clay Goodman, Hunter Hall and James Rich.
 Honorary pallbearers were Julian Brown, Jimmy Frazier, and J. D. Lindsey.
 Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.
