Born May 22, 1924, in Kosciusko, Miss. to the late Van Buren and Georgia Marie Geddy Tyler, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Jack Norbert Dempsey; one daughter, Jackie Abney; three grandchildren, Denise Goodman, Desmond Heath, and Shannon Abney; two sisters, and four brothers. She was a cosmetologist and co-owner of Dempsey’s Bar- B-Que. She was a member of the DAV Auxiliary and enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, and all forms of needlework. She also loved to read and to cook. She was of the Methodist faith. Survivors include one son, David Earl Weeks of Athens, Ohio; four daughters, Debra Gillespie of Ennis, Texas, Barbara Rich of Brookfield, Jean Bailey of Valdosta, and Rose Sharon Heath of Tifton; 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, ten great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services were held March 28 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Albritton-Beaumont Funeral Directors with the Rev. Willie Heath officiating. Burial followed at Tift Memorial Gardens.
