Born Aug. 24, 1924, in Berrien County to the late Kissam Parrish and Eula Mae Nix DeVane, he was a retired agent with the Georgia Department of Revenue and a farmer. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, member of Nashville Post VFW, member of Nashville First Baptist Church and the Men's Bible Class. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Rowan DeVane of Nashville; two daughters and sons-in-law, Vanne and Leon Tucker of Nashville and Mary Kay and Chris Welsh of Dothan, AL; sister, Betty Hancock of Nashville; brother, Toby DeVane of Moultrie; four grandchildren, John and Kathryn Tucker and James and Margaret Welsh. He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald DeVane. Funeral services were held Nov. 7 at 11 a.m. at Nashville First Baptist Church with the Revs. Stanley Luke and Joe Eckstine and Elder Thad Marshall officiating. Lee Stallings sang "It is Well With My Soul," Deborah Boyd sang "Beulah Land," and as a duet, they sang "Amazing Grace," accompanied by Barry Spence, pianist. Interment was in Pleasant Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Parrish Akins, Philip Akins, Brion Akins, Russell Nix, Alvin Culverhouse, Bryan Shaw. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men's Bible Class at Nashville First Baptist Church. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
