She was born July 9, 1939, in Slater, FL to the late Elmer and Ruth Miriam Poppell Hance. She was a homemaker, was employed with The Berrien Press for 25 years as copy editor, and was a member of Alapaha United Methodist Church. She was very instrumental in the Annual Alapaha Easter Passion Play, having served as director for over 20 years, and was also involved with the Alapaha Station Celebration committee since 1981. Through her church, she became very involved in local and foreign missions and hosted countless missionaries in her home over the years. She worked to reach across denominational lines to involve all local church people together in her productions including Christmas at the Depot. She had a tremendous love for her family, her church, and her community, but most of all for her faith, which she continued to share even in her final days. She is survived by her husband, Joe Dixon of Alapaha; daughter, Debra (Britt) Dobbs of Warner Robins; three sons, Dr. Matt (Jenna) Dixon of Perry, and John (Robin) Dixon and Joel (Genia) Dixon, both of Alapaha; sister, Delia (Billy) Poston of Quincy, FL; 13 grandchildren, Drew, David, Aaron Dobbs, Lane, Clay, Lindsay Dobbs, Carmen, Caleb, Joleigh, Cavin, Holt, Alli and Samuel. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 25 at 11 a.m. at Alapaha Baptist Church with the Rev. Larry Hauser, Rev. Robbie Rowe and Rev. Mike Gibbs officiating. Interment will follow in Fletcher Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, Feb. 24 from 5-8 at Alapaha United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alapaha United Methodist Church Altar Fund in honor of Marian Dixon to support local and foreign missions.
