Carroll Dorsey, 79, of Hixson, TN died March 20, 2011 after a 21 year battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Born January 30, 1932, in Nashville to the late E.E. and Velma Dorsey, he graduated from Asbury College in Wilmore, KY. He earned his master’s in education degree from the University of Tennessee and was the first to attain an educational specialist degree from Valdosta State University. For over three decades he was a school administrator. He began his career in Rhea County, TN, where many students remember him for shouting “freeze” when he caught a tardy in the halls. He began working in Tift County schools in 1969 and remained there until he retired in the early 90’s. Though it was opposed at times, he insisted on beginning each school day with the phrase, “This is the day that the Lord has made.” He integrated three schools and coached boxing. Having been a follower of Jesus Christ since 1972, he enjoyed studying the B Bible and was a member of Dallas Bay Baptist Church. He loved bursting into s song and handing out dollar bills to little children. He was a University of T Texas football fan even while residing in Georgia. He enjoyed hiking the A Appalachian Trail and was an avid prankster. Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Shirley Garrison Dorsey; son, Hal Dorsey; daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Farrell Landon and Sara and Doug Garlin; grandson, Caleb Gatlin; special God-given brother, Bob McBride; an e extraordinary caregiver, Gail Elder; cherished friend, Holly Cowan.
