Born April 21, 1930, in Berrien County, she was the daughter of the late Elijah S. Taylor and the late Rhoda Jane Ford. She was a homemaker and member of Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Wesley Dukes Jr., who died Feb. 25, 2000. Survivors include three daughters and sons-in-law, Debra and Michael Baldree, Nashville, Patricia Lynn Dukes, Jacksonville, Fla., Sara Jane and Richard Shelton, Valdosta; one son and daughter-in-law, the Rev. J.W. III and Kimberly Dukes, Nashville; one sister, Farries Griffin, Nashville; one brother, Elwood Taylor, Nashville; 10 grandchildren, Amanda Baldree, Mark (Heather) McMillan, T.J. (Natasha) Wade, Josh Dukes, Tasha Wade, David Dukes, Kelly Shelton (Jeff) Sticha, Dayne (Susan) Shelton, Emily Shelton (Bill) Grau, Sally Shelton (Tim) Ensor; six great-grandchildren, Andrew and Tabitha McMillan, Davis, Mary and Forrester Shelton and Ruth Grau.She was preceded in death by sisters, Jeanette Warren and Cleo Benefield and two brothers, Coy Taylor and Floy Taylor. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, May 11, 2009, at Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church. The Rev. Jackie Connell, the Rev. Bobby Fussell, the Rev. Jimmy Futch and the Rev. J.W. Dukes III will officiate. Active pallbearers were Russell Warren, Steve Giddens, Dickie Ard, Wayne Warren, Billy Griffin, Michael Warren, Dayne Shelton, Murray Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Mark McMillan, T.J. Wade, Josh Dukes, Johnny Ard, David Dukes, Guy Martin, Thomas Ard, Wonnie Royals, J.M. Kent, Wendell Kent, Wayne Tomberlin, Scott Tomberlin. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 7-9 p.m. Sunday. Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville was in charge of arrangements.
