She was born in Lowndes County on Oct. 11, 1938, to the late Melvin and Pearlie Wilson Stone. Mrs. Fender was a homemaker and a member of Faith Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Sherod Lamar Fender of Ray City; a daughter, Deborah Mason of Valdosta; two sons, Glen Elkins and Ronnie Elkins, both of Valdosta; a brother, J.W. Stone of Ray City; a sister, Doris Taite of Nashville; five grandchildren, Christina Herndon, Jeff Bailey, David Fennell, Nicole Elkins, and Elizabeth Elkins; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Herndon, Michael Herndon, Haiden Hall and Brailyn Bailey. She was preceded in death by nine brothers and sisters. A graveside funeral service was held at Nashville Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. on March 30 with the Rev. Phillip Simmons officiating. Appropriate music was provided. Selected family members served as pallbearers. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
