 Betty Jane Fender, 70, of Ray City died March 28, 2009, at Berrien County 
Hospital.
 She was born in Lowndes County on Oct. 11, 1938, to the late Melvin and 
Pearlie Wilson Stone. Mrs. Fender was a homemaker and a member of Faith 
Baptist Church.
 She is survived by her husband, Sherod Lamar Fender of Ray City; a daughter, 
Deborah Mason of Valdosta; two sons, Glen Elkins and Ronnie Elkins, both of 
Valdosta; a brother, J.W. Stone of Ray City; a sister, Doris Taite of 
Nashville; five grandchildren, Christina Herndon, Jeff Bailey, David Fennell, 
Nicole Elkins, and Elizabeth Elkins; four great-grandchildren, Hailey Herndon, 
Michael Herndon, Haiden Hall and Brailyn Bailey. She was preceded in death by 
nine brothers and sisters.
 A graveside funeral service was held at Nashville Memorial Gardens at 2 p.m. 
on March 30 with the Rev. Phillip Simmons officiating. Appropriate music was 
provided.
 Selected family members served as pallbearers.
 Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
