She was born on November 25, 1931, in Nashville to the late John Elie and F Fannie Belle Surrency Grimes. She married Arnold Gainous which she was 19 and t they had a wonderful marriage of 53 years. He passed away on June 2, 2003. She w was retired from Woolworth Department Stores, where she had been a manager and b bookkeeper. She was a member of Cairo Church of Good. Bessie Grimes excelled in s school work. She completed two years of school in one year, and was allowed to s skip an entire school year, graduating from high school when she was just 16 y years old. She was industrious, often working alongside her husband, and they w were known for generosity and consideration of others. Survivors include great-niece, Cindy Cote of Connecticut, who lived with the G Gainouses for a number of years; sister, Irene Taylor of Dunedin, FL; host of n nieces and nephews, including Sylvia (Charles) Miner of Powell, TN, Wilma ( (Johnny) Hall, Wendell (Liza) Griffin and Fannie (Frank) Fletcher all of N Nashville and very special friends, Joe and Patsy Plant of Cairo. She was preceded in death by her husband’s parents, six brothers, Eugene Grim Grimes, Jackson Grimes, Carson Grimes, Homer Grimes, Comer Grimes and Earnest Grim Grimes; sisters, Myrtle Foxworth, Edna Davis and Ida lee Griffin. Funeral services were held on July 7 at 11 a.m. at Cairo Church of God with Pas Pastor DeWayne Atkinson officiating. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Cairo. Active pallbearers were Tommy Willis, Jeremy Mills, Ronnie mills. Clark’s Funeral Home of Cairo was in charge of arrangements.
