Born June 30, 1932 in Berrien County to the late William Thomas and Letitia Mathis Garrett, he was a retired salesman of agricultural hardware, fertilizer and chemicals. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and member of Nashville First Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran who fought in the Korean War. He was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Jo Garrett, who died April 16, 2007, and a sister, Betty Garrett. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Paige and David Dampier of Nashville; sons and daughters-in-law, Jimmy and Beth Garrett of Tallahassee, FL, Tommy and Tammy Garrett of Adel, Joey and Tonia Garrett of Nashville; eight grandchildren, Krystle Dampier Sapp, Jarred Garrett, J.W. Garrett, Austin Dampier, Seth Garrett, Blake Garrett, Hunter Garrett, Cole Garrett; three great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held February 11 at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Elder Robert Conner officiating. Markie Dickerson sang "Amazing Grace" and "I Can Only Imagine," "Blessed Assurance" was played on CD. Interment was in Nashville Memorial Gardens. Active pallbearers were J.W. Garrett, Seth Garrett, Hunter Garrett, Cole Garrett, Jarred Garrett, Blake Garrett, Austin Garrett, Lee Whidden. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Spann, Virgil Hickox, Butch Houston, Andy Morrison, Jimmy Fulp, Wayne Stallings, Roy Miller, Johnny Ross, Troy Griner, Donnie Brogdon, Jerry Brogdon, Ronnie Gaskins, Tommy Massengill, Anthony Heath.
