Although his death came suddenly, it was, in a measure, not unexpected as Mr. Garrett has been in very poor health for several months. He was sixty-two years of age. Mr. Garrett was one of the best known men in this section. He was a large planter, having a big plantation on which he made his home, and he was interested in many other enterprises through the section. His home, Riverside, was one of the most beautiful country estates in South Georgia. Mr. Garrett was prominently identified with political endeavor for many years, holding a number of elective offices and exerting much influence in his section. Mr. Garrett’s widespread business enterprises, his personality, and his many fine traits of character, made him many friends throughout this section, and there will be general regret to follow the news of his passing. The deceased is survived by his wife, and by a number of children. He leaves four sons, Mr. W.T. Garrett, of Willacoochee, Mr. John Garrett, of Ocilla, and Messrs. Earnest and Alva Garrett, who reside at the home place. He is also survived by four daughters, Mrs. Hopper Burns, Mrs. H.W. Harper and Mrs. J.M. Knight, all of Jacksonville, Fla., and Mrs. Jack Camdrom, of Willacoochee. The funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at his home at Riverside near Willacoochee. The services will be conducted by Elders O.R. Knight and J.B. Mathis, of the Primitive Baptist Church.
