He was a retired material manager with civil service, Navy veteran of World War II, member of American Legion; Disabled American Veterans and member of Long Branch Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife, Clara Jane Whitecotton Gaskins of Cairo; one daughter, Janice Gaskins of Cairo; one son, Michael James Gaskins, Thomasville; two sisters, Marlene Basson, Naylor, Linda Fay Jones, Lilburn; five brothers, Charles Gaskins, Bartow, Fla., Ronald Gaskins, Tampa, Fla., Earl Gaskins, Jasper, Ga., Billy Jack Gaskins, Commerce, and Jimmy Wayne Gaskins of Elk Grove, Calif.Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, June 27, 2005 in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. A.C. Gilliard officiating. Burial will be held in Gaskins Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Sunday. -- Lovein Funeral Home, Nashville.
