He was born April 28, 1944, in Chatham County to the late Manning G. and Ada E Estelle Crosby Gaskins. He owned and operated Gaskins Grocery for years and had a also worked at Chaparral Boats in the wood shop. He was of the Baptist faith. H He served in the United States Air Force and was a Vietnam veteran. He was p preceded in death by a son, Chad Wilson Gaskins who died February 23, 2011, and a a sister, Geraldine Swanson. He is survived by his son, Bobby (Virlene) Gaskins, Jr. of Nashville; b brothers, Ronnie (Sandra) Gaskins of Adel, Neil (Ann) Gaskins of Nashville, and D Dennis (Kay) of Orlando, FL; four grandchildren, Stevie Gaskins, Will Gaskins, M McKinley Gaskins and Chandler Gaskins. Funeral services were held May 16 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Chris Newbern officiating. Musical selections were provided by New Tradition, and “Go Rest High on That Mountain” was played on CD. Interment followed in Riverside Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ramie Jowers, Steve Connell, Steve Register, Jeff Gaskins, Denny Ray Gaskins, B.F. Neumans. Honorary pallbearers were Leroy McGomery, Raymond Jowers, Carlos Vickers, L Lamar Vickers, Derrick Gaskins. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
