The Berrien County native was a 1957 graduate of Berrien High School. He attended South Georgia College, was a graduate of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton and also attended the University of Georgia. He was a veteran of the United States Air Force and was employed with Hercules, Inc., Brunswick office for 30 years, retiring in 2002 as a wood buyer. He moved to Bulloch County in 1976 and to Brooklet in 1988. He attended Brooklet United Methodist Church and was a loyal member of Brooklet Kiwanis Club. Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Lana Tygart Griner of Brooklet; two daughters and sons-in-law, Christy and Brian Hulsey of Statesboro and Amanda and Jonathan Currier of St. Simons; two brothers and sisters-in-laws, Paul and Anelda Griner and Charles and Ida Luke, all of Nashville; his mother-in-law, Marjorie West Tygart of Nashville; two grandchildren, Samantha Beatrice Hulsey and Lillian Joy Currier. Funeral services were held Oct. 28 at 11 a.m. at Brooklet United Methodist Church. A graveside service and burial were held Oct. 29 at 10 a.m. at the Tygart Pebbles Family Cemetery in Nashville. Active pallbearers were Keith Middleton, Ben Buie, Ben Martin, Johnny Godbee, Charles Crosby, Randy Brigman, Jerome Jones, Jappy Stringer. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Brooklet Kiwanisw Club, members of the John Wesley Class and the Jack Lee Class, Mike Prosser, Homer Whitfield and Ricky Stringer. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Camp J.D. Tygart, Rt. 1, Box 3200, Ray City, GA 31645. Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home of Statesboro was in charge of arrangements.
