Born February 10, 1922 in Berrien County, he was the son of the late James L. and Pheriba Ford Guthrie. He was a retired owner of a concrete and trucking company. He was a member of Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church and an Army Veteran of World War II and a life member of Nashville Post VFW. He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve Smith Guthrie in 2007. Survivors include one daughter, M. Luvenia "Sunshine" Summers of Ray City; one son, John Daniel Guthrie of Lenox; two sisters, Natalie Bargus of Nashville and Valerie Kent of Lakeland; four brothers; Rev. Warner Guthrie and Ottis Guthrie both of Nashville, Vernon Guthrie of Adel and Hugh Guthrie of Dasher; eight grandchildren, Dana Rewis, Jody Kilgore, James Castleberry, Daniel Castleberry, Tracie Anderson, Amy Gray, Stacey Summers and John Burnham; 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on March 17 in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Rev. Ray Dean officiating. Appropriate music was provided, including "Shall We Gather At The River," and "Hallelujah Square." Interment was in Guthrie Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dean Rewis, Zachary Cribb, Walter Kilgore, Darrell Kilpatrick, Jerome Kilpatrick, Jimmy Kilpatrick. Lovein Funeral Home of Nashville was in charge of arrangements.
