Born January 22, 1915 in Berrien County to the late John Daniel and Georgia Futch Hancock, he worked for the Navy Department in Alexandria, VA and Washington, DC. He later worked for the Army Missile Command at Redstone Arsenal, Alabama. After retirement, he enjoyed golf and worked as a volunteer in several community organizations. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Huntsville. He was married to the late Virginia Jossey Hancock. Survivors include two daughters and one son-in-law, Lynda Sobera of Huntsville and Paula and Hank Perkins of Fairhope, AL; two sister, Oppie Lee Powell and Kathleen Harris, both of Nashville; grandchildren, Melissa Fowler and husband, Greg, of Huntsville, Paul Scott Sobera and wife, Jenny, of Point Clear, AL, and Virginia Perkins of Fairhope; great-grandchildren, Jack and Brandon Fowler and Will, Carter and Lily Kate Sobera. He was preceded in death by four brothers. Funeral services were held May 17 at First United Methodist Church in Huntsville with the Revs. Coy Hallmark and Don Cross officiating. A graveside service was held May 19 at Woodlawn City Cemetery with Rev. Larry Land officiating. Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home of Adel was in charge of arrangements.
