She was born March 11, 1936, in Ambrose to the late Walter Merritt and Minnie Vickers. She was a homemaker and attended Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church. She enjoyed fishing, hunting, cooking for others, and especially spending time with her grandchildren. She was the widow of William Auston Hancock who died in 1998. She is survived by her daughter, Renee Hancock of Tifton; son, Dr. William (Tonja) Hancock of Tifton; five grandchildren, Sarah Mathildaa O’Neal, Merritt David Hancock, William Dalton Hancock, Olivia Claire Hancock, and Rachel Lynn Hancock; sister, Elizabeth Hand of Gainesville; brother, Roy Merritt of Ambrose; special niece, Bernice (W.E.)Hughes; numerous other nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held January 8 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with Rev. Eldridge Lyons and Rev. J.W. Dukes III officiating. Interment will follow in Nashville Memorial Gardens. Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
