Hancock Died at Home Near Ray City Born in Meriwether County, But Resident Here Two Years. Mr. J.W. Hancock died at his country home three miles northeast of Ray City, last Friday morning at seven o’clock, after a stroke of paralysis which he suffered Thursday evening at seven o’clock. The deceased was 77 years of age and had enjoyed good health up to the time of his illness. He was born in Meriwether County where he lived practically all his life, and about eight years ago moved to Taylor County, where he resided until two years ago when he moved to this county. He was a farmer by trade and at the time of his death was farming on the place of Mr. E.J. Knight near Ray City. He was a well thought of citizen and many were saddened at his sudden passing. The funeral services and interment were held Saturday morning at ten o’clock at the New Ramia Church near Ray City, with Rev. Charles Vickers conducting the services. Those surviving are his wife and eight sons and one daughter, they are as follows: Mr. W.P. Hancock, L.H. and H.B. Hancock, all of Nashville; Mr. E.J., B.H. and H.S. Hancock, of Ray City; Messrs. C.V. and B.T. Hancock, of Lakeland; Mrs. Nellie Proctor, of Byron, Ga., and one brother, Mr. J.P. Hancock, of Vienna, La.
