Born Dec. 22, 1916, in Ben Hill County to the late J.L. and Mittie Mae Ball Ashurst Ashurst, she operated Fitzgerald Railroad Shops Restaurant and was a former employee of Abe Kruger Department Store in Fitzgerald and Burdine’s Department Store in Miami, FL. She and her husband owned and operated Handley’s Paint Store in Marathon, FL, before moving back to the Fitzgerald area. She was a member of Pine Level United Methodist Church and a long-time member of the A American Legion Auxiliary. Survivors include two sons and daughters-in-law, Kyle and Dorothy Jean Fuller of Fitzgerald and Kenny Drew and Carol Fuller of Hiawassee; daughter and son-in-law, Sandra and Rick Roth of Grassy Key, FL; six grandchildren, seven great law, Sandra and Rick Roth of Grassy Key, FL; six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; nephews, Ted and Ray grandchildren; nephews, Ted and Ray Ashurst. She was preceded in death by her husbands, E.K. Fuller and Robert V. “Bob” Handley and brother, Ed Ashurst. Funeral services were held May 22 at 11 a.m. at Pine Level United Methodist Ch Church with the Rev. Annette Brooks officiating. Interment was in Evergreen Cemetery.
