Harpe, 67, of Ray City died Nov. 28, 2009, at South Georgia Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born in Berrien County to the late Russell B. Sr. and Aline Brantley Harpe. He was a devoted husband and father who loved his girls and spending time with his family. He served as a deacon at First Baptist Church of First Baptist Church of Ray City. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, James S. Harpe, Jr., two grandchildren, Anabell and Isabell Wood, Sister; Lucille Fender; three brothers, Marion B. Harpe, Eugene Harpe, and Russell B. Harpe, Jr. Survivors include his wife, Emma Jean Harpe of Ray City; four daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Dexter Bridges of Adel, Wendy Ann and Steve Roberts and Christi Jill and Landry Kelley all of Ray City, Jennifer Lynn Harpe and Chip Moore of Valdosta; six grandchildren, Michael Coats, Jason Brogdon, Jeana and Jerry Woods, Whitney Roberts, Hunter and Camron Kelley; two great- grandchildren, McKenna Shepard and Jaydon Wood, one sister, Virginia Bartley of Ray City; a number of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Dec. 2 at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Ray City. Interment will be in Sunset Hill Cemetery in Valdosta. Music Funeral Services of Lakeland is in charge of arrangements.
