He was born Feb. 14, 1920 in Oglethorpe Co. to Joe and Julia Drake Harper. He was a retired carpenter and painter, an army veteran of WWII and a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include three daughters, Diane Manning of Ray City, Tammy Parker of Hahira and Jerry Harper of Ray City; three sons, Benny Harper of Ray City, Larry Harper of Winnie, TX and Gary W. Harper of Ray City; three sisters, Sally Mae Burrows of Lexington, Dorothy Sorrows of Lexington and Mildred Willowford of Buford; 12 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Mr. Harper was preceded in death by a son, Bobby Harper who died in 1990. Graveside services will be performed at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 24, 1999 by Elder Robert Skinner at Beaver Dam Cemetery in Ray City. The body will lie in state at the residence of Diane Manning until service.
