 Riley Harper, 89, of Tifton, died Jan. 23, 2012 at his residence.
Born June 19, 1922, in Atkinson County to the late John
and Mary Crosby Harper, he was retired with JP Stevens Co.
in Tifton after serving 20 years in the picking room. He was of
the Baptist faith, was an Army veteran of WWII, and a recipient
of the Purple Heart. He was preceded in death by two sisters,
Ludelle Fogarty and Maude Rowe; five brothers, Jesse, Willie,
Johnny, Mack, and Ben Harper; grandson, Gregory Steverson.
Survivors include his wife, Eloise Deen Harper of Tifton;
two daughters and sons-in-law, Deloris and Russell Rodgers
of Wellburn, FL and Delaine and Greg Williams of Alapaha;
son and daughter-in-law, John Lewis and Jo Beth Harper of
Nashville; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Jeff) Williams, Johnny
Harper, Stacey (Billy) Fender, Justin Williams, and Steven Williams;
four great-grandchildren, Kimberly, Kathryn, Brandon,
and Bella.
Funeral services were held Jan. 28 at 2 p.m. in the Chapel
of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Roland Mitchell, Jr,,
Danny Ray, and Tony Roberts officiating. Musical selections
included "Stroll Over Heaven" and "Touch the Hem of His Garment."
Interment was in Nashville Memorial Gardens.
Active pallbearers were Ricky Williams, Gary Williams, Stanley
Williams, Ricky Crosby, J.W. Harper, and Johnny Harper
Honorary pallbearers were Wesley Williams, Brandon Williams,
Billy Williams, Bennie Deen, II, and Laster Harper.
Lovein Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
