Harper Died at Albany Last Thursday Tom G. Harper, well known former Berrien County man, passed at his residence on Route 3, Albany, Thursday morning of last week following a lengthy illness. He was 86 years of age. Mr. Harper had lived near Albany the past 18 months. Prior to that time he resided in Berrien County. He was born Feb. 8, 1875 in Coffee County, a son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cager Harper. Funeral services were held Saturday morning at 11 o’clock at St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church near Alapaha, the last rites conducted by Rev. Marvin Mathis and Rev. Fred Hesters. Burial was in the church cemetery, arrangements handled by Lovein Funeral Home. Herbert Griffin, Owen Griffin, Roy F. Davis, and Mrs. Carl Wilkerson sang, “A Mansion is Prepared for Me,” “No Tears,” and “We Shall Gather at the River.” Pall-bearers were Harvey Joiner, Troy Harsey, Harry Davis, Wilson Brogdon, Willis Railey, and Ottis Lewis. Survivors are: four sons, Lewis Harper of Phenix City, Ala., Henry Harper of Jackson, Walter Harper of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Wiley Harper of Nashville; two daughters, Mrs. Haywood Parsons of Phenix City, Ala., and Mrs. Huey Lee Moore of Albany; one brother, Johnny Harper of Ocilla; two sisters, Mrs. Pate Luke of Alapaha and Mrs. Mary Rowe of Starke, Fla.; also 16 grandchildren.
