He was born May 9, 1930 in Laurens County to the late William Benjamin Haskins and the late Fannie Lee Gilbert. He was a retired plantation manager for Sinkola Plantation in Thomasville. In his early years, he was a principal and teacher at the New Lois School in Berrien County. He was a County Extension Agent in Thomas County and worked in the 4-H Club where he was awarded the Master 4-H. He attended ABAC where he played basketball and later graduated from the University of Georgia. He was also very active in the Baptist Village in Waycross and served on the board, as well as, chairman. He was a member of the Nashville First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. He was preceded in death by three brothers, James Taylor Haskins, William Blanton Haskins, and Othan Gilbert Haskins. He is survived by his wife, Juanell Nix Haskins of Nashville; daughter, Pamela Kay (O.B.) White of Thomasville; three sons, Donald R. (Julia) Haskins, Jr. of Thomasville, Gilbert L. (Lisa) Haskins of Quitman, and Scott M. Haskins of Tifton; 10 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 12, 2009 in the Nashville First Baptist Church with the Rev. Stanley Luke and the Rev. Dennis Norman officiating. Interment will follow in Westview Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Jim Haskins, Gilbert Haskins, Bill Haskins, Mark Nix, John Nix, Ran Harris, Brian Powell and Randy Nix.
