R. Hayes of Alapaha, who passed away Wedneday in the Veterans Hospital in Lake City were held Sept 10, 1982 in St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church in Berrien County , with interment in the church cemetery. The Rev. Edward Johnston and Mr. Gary Flanders officiated at the services. Born January 27, 1921, in Berrien County, Mr. Hayes, a textile worker, was a son of the late Pearl and Minnie O'Neal Hayes. He was of the Mormon faith, a member of the VFW and an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include the widow, Mrs. Thelma Spikes Hayes of Alapaha; a son, Robert Hayes of Adel; three daughters, Mrs. Carolyn Sumner of Fredricksburg, VA., Mrs. Joyce DeBerry of Ocilla, and Mrs. Ellen Brogdon of Alapaha; four brothers, Willie Hayes of Willacoochee, Faris Hayes and Bernise Hayes both of Waycross and Carl Hayes of Moultrie and three grandchildren.
