Born June 2, 1944 in Jefferson County, Alabama to the late Elbert Gordon and Mae Weaver Henderson, he grew up in Fitzgerald and Manchester and graduated from Manchester High School. He attended Clemson University where he played football for three years. He graduated from the University of Georgia and received his masters of education degree from Cambridge College in Boston, MA. He received numerous awards for coaching football and basketball in the state of Georgia. He coached basketball at Berrien High School from 1999 - 2003. His life's passion was teaching life's principles to students through teaching and coaching. He was a member of Nashville United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Cecilia Spradlin Henderson of Nashville; one son and daughter-in-law, Ryan and Alison Henderson of Dawson; one daughter and son- in-law, Julie and Jay Carroll of Nashville; granddaughter, Lindsey Henderson, and grandson, Caden Carroll; one sister and brother-in-law, Ira and Nancy Spradlin of Jonesboro; one sister-in-law, Sandra Bass of Perry; numerous nieces, nephews and close friends. Funeral services were held August 21 at 10 a.m. at Nashville United Methodist Church with the Revs. Dwight Bishop and Larry Daughtry officiating. The congregation sang "What a Friend We Have in Jesus," accompanied by Bobette Lamb. Interment was in Manchester City Cemetery at 4:30 p.m. Pallbearers were Jerry Brogdon, Donnie Brogdon, Danny Studstill, Joey Moore, Walt Evans, Elbert Powell, Dr. Hank Decker, Marcus Holley.
