He was a lifelong resident of Berrien County and was a retired staff sergeant in the US Army, having seen war service in the Korean Conflict. He was also retired from the Berrien County Road Department and was a member of the Rowetown Missionary Baptist Church. Survivors included his widow, Emma Jean McMillan Hendley, Alapaha: daughter, Donna Hendley, Alapaha; one son, John Russell Hendley, Alapaha; four sisters, Geraldine Rowe, Alapaha; Wynelle Powell, Albany; Brewnell Thaw, St. Simons Island; Nannell McWhorter, Newnan. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the chapel of Lovein Funeral Home with the Revs. Earl Ellis, Gary James, Junior Swain and Clayton Davis officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today at the funeral home.
