A native of Nashville, he had been a resident of Palatka for the past 33 years. He served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam Conflict. From 1977-1995 he owned and operated Palatka Bakery. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #3349, American Legion Bert Hodge Post #45, and Faith Baptist Church in Palatka. Survivors include his wife, Leta B. Hendley of Palatka; son, Buck Hendley of Palatka; daughter, Linda Schlegel of Prescott, AZ; brother, Herbert Hendley of Hiawassee; sister, Lena Mae Rowan of Warner Robins; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held January 15 at 10 a.m. at Masters Funeral Home of Palatka with the Revs. Gary Martin and Ed Wilds officiating. A committal service with full military honors by the U.S. Navy was held January 15 at 2 p.m. at Riverside Memorial Park in Jacksonville, FL with the Revs. Mack McMullen and John Cameron officiating. Masters Funeral Home of Palatka was in charge of arrangements.
